Self love therapy is a supportive and healing process that allows you to explore your beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that relate to 'self' in a safe and non judgemental environment.

It provides a space for your self-discovery and personal growth; helping you to understand and navigate the experiences that lead you towards self doubt, self criticism and lack of self confidence and creating new beliefs that encompass self trust, self acceptance and self belief; building strategies to help you become unapologetically more of the 'real you' and less of who you think you need to be in order to fit in.

Overthinking and intrusive, ruminating thoughts- usually centred around people judging you or you judging yourself negatively; being very down on yourself and super critical of everything you do

Intense anxiety (or panic)- often related to social events, group based activities and trying new things with new people, leading to avoidance or dissociation in the moment (like you are there in body only)

Overwhelm- taking on too much, not being able to say no and then feeling like no one cares and that you don't matter; doubting your ability to cope but not having a limit on your capacity

People pleasing- always saying yes to fit in, not speaking up, having little or no boundaries and feeling frustrated and unseen in friendships and relationships

Hyper independence/ over achieving- doing everything yourself, not being able to ask for help or refusing help when it is offered, even when you are at capacity; a sense that you can't trust things will be done if you don't do them; going above and beyond expectation often for external validation

Perfectionism/ control- having conditions on everything being a certain way or standard, feeling like no one else does it well enough and punishing yourself to meet your own expectations

Procrastination/ avoidance- finding reasons to not do the things that you truly desire, and filling the time instead with things that don't fulfil you

Self sabotage- feeling trapped in a cycle of starting something that feels like bettering yourself and somehow you get in your own way...wanting to create change and then engaging behaviours that feel automatic and leave you feeling pretty sh*t. This pattern could include complete avoidance or overconsumption- social media, alcohol, clothes, food and even narcotics.

Dating/ relationships with the 'wrong' people- this could be a negatively impacting situation with someone who is narcissistic, controlling or emotionally abusive; being co-dependant and overly attached or even not committing or relationships or a sense of being with people that you aren't fully 'attracted' to

Our experiences- from birth and beyond inform our beliefs about who we think we are and our self worth. and are shaped primarily by our earliest experiences; from family, teachers and peers. If we don't get a sense of feeling safe, secure and loved from an early age, we can develop a lot of coping behaviours to keep ourselves 'safe'- often avoidance so we don't have to put ourselves 'out there' or constantly trying to please and excel to be seen and validated, both of which lead to feeling a sense of 'lack' even more because it creates a reliance on others to fulfil a feeling within ourselves. We will often be looking at what others want and need, and abandon what we want and need in the process. What starts as a way to feel safe, fit in, be liked as a child, doesn't make sense to our adult self, which leads to this inner conflict.

These experiences shape our beliefs, thoughts, feelings and behaviours... and what we believe at the core of us, the mind will constantly try and keep it 'alive'; if you believe you are not good enough, chances are your experiences (as listed above) will reflect it because deep down in your subconscious, it's your truth.

To put it simply.. if you believe you are not good enough, every thought, feeling, behaviour and experience will connect to this belief... it is my aim with self love therapy to disrupt the negatively impacting patterns, and for you to create new ones that reflect a positive sense of self.

I work online and use zoom or google video; this is to allow for your convenience and comfort, to allow you to open up about the experiences that have lead to core beliefs you currently have about yourself; to look at how we can work towards changing the thoughts and feelings (nervous system response) in a way and at a pace that feels right for you. This is likely to include:

  • Exploring the experiences that have lead to a lack of self worth, trust and belief

  • Helping you to understand, heal from and reframe experiences to create a new 'safer' outlook to you and your life

  • Understanding the different 'protector parts' of you that are operating in your life or in certain situations and help you to become less guarded

  • Allow the 'vulnerable parts' of you to be seen and heard in a safe space so you can explore being more 'you' in your life

  • Practising change in small doses, and slowly over time

  • Building awareness and skills by practising change in small doses, and slowly over time

  • Navigating and overcoming challenging thoughts and feelings that come with change

  • Creating new belief systems that align to self love

Clients often comment on the 'subliminal' effect that working with me offers- that the changes are so small, subtle and effective over time that there's an often sudden realisation that they are thinking, feeling and behaving differently, which leaves them feeling more resilient, content and peaceful along the journey to self actualisation- being the 'best' self they can be, whilst understanding that this isn't about perfection.
